Clinical Care
Antenatal and Postnatal Midwifery Care Packages
These are mostly provided by Chris, and face to face in Yorkshire and surrounding counties.
Full Antenatal and Postnatal Care Package £3400
We will provide all your antenatal and postnatal care but are currently unable to provide birth care due to a lack of professional indemnity provision for this area of practice. We have full indemnity insurance for antenatal and postnatal care.

We can provide all your antenatal midwifery care, visits at your convenience, (evenings, weekends or office hours) usually in your home. You don’t need to use the NHS at all if you don’t want to. We can also accompany you to any hospital appointments, you may want or need, Covid-19 restrictions permitting. We have time to listen and get to know you and you us.
Visits usually start from when you know you are pregnant and are offered initially monthly, then fortnightly from 28 weeks, going to weekly from 36 weeks, and twice weekly if over 42 weeks. This is infinitely variable, depending on holidays and your needs and wants and is negotiable. We won’t come if you don’t want us to and we will if you do! We offer the usual clinical checks, blood pressure, urine testing, abdominal palpation and listening to your baby as appropriate – a sonicaid will generally pick up a fetal heart beat from 12/14 weeks but NICE recommendations are not to auscultate (listen in) unless wanted by the woman.
Antenatal care for uncomplicated pregnancies NICE Clinical guideline [CG62] updated: 04 February 2019
1.10.7 Auscultation of the fetal heart may confirm that the fetus is alive but is unlikely to have any predictive value and routine listening is therefore not recommended. However, when requested by the mother, auscultation of the fetal heart may provide reassurance.
After your birth we offer frequent postnatal visits – daily for 5+ days, alternate day visits for a week or so, twice weekly for the next couple of weeks and then weekly until you are ready for discharge. Many couples have found in retrospect that this was the most valuable aspect of having full maternity care. We check on you and your baby’s wellbeing during this time, keeping an eye on your recovery from the hard work of birthing your baby and help you to adapt to your changing roles. We will support you with infant feeding and parenting skills such as bathing. We can undertake the newborn blood spot screening and weigh your baby as wanted.
Full Antenatal Care only: £1850
All your antenatal care is provided, as described above.
Antenatal Top-Up Care – £80 for a 60 minute virtual visit and £120 for a face to face visit.
If you choose not to have full care you can use us to top-up your NHS care or just to access some care if you are not using the maternity services. These can be arranged as a one-of or you can book as many as you wish. We cannot do clinical examinations such as a palpation (feeling your tummy) if we meet via zoom, but belly mapping can be helpful for you to understand how your baby is positioned. It is quite possible for you to check your own urine and blood pressure and we can provide guidance regarding the results. We will advise you if we think a face to face appointment would be beneficial and we can make a referral to a specialist if clinically appropriate or wanted by you.
Full Postnatal Care only: £1850
All your postnatal care is provided, as described above. We would like to meet you prior to the birth, once or twice to establish a relationship with you.
Immediate Post birth visit: £550
We can offer an immediate post birth visit, generally useful if you are planning to freebirth. We would like to meet you prior to the birth, once or twice and also like to make a postnatal visit after a few days. Antenatally we can notify your GP and the local NHS Trust of your plans. After your baby is born we can notify the birth which generates the baby’s NHS number. We can give you and your baby an initial check over to ensure you are both well. We can’t provide the NIPE (Newborn Initial Physical Examination) but can liaise with the local NHS Trust to arrange this.
Additional Services
In addition to providing clinical midwifery care we also offer a range of consultations that can support you during your pregnancy and the postnatal period. All these services are available online nationally or face to face for women living in and around Yorkshire.

One-to-One Midwifery Consultations: £60/hour
These consultations give you time to discuss and explore issues of importance relating to your pregnancy, birth or postnatal period. You may want to just have a general chat or have specific considerations, such as a previous caesarean section or a history of long pregnancies and want to have time to fully discuss them and the impact they could have on your birth and postnatal period. These consultations provide time for you to do this. Your partner is welcome to join in, if you want them to.
Discussion with a midwife about the options for care that can arise before, during and after birth will help you to develop your knowledge and understanding of expected routines and interventions. As you develop your birth preferences we can discuss issues such as place of birth, positions for labour and birth, internal examinations, and artificial rupture of membranes or induction of labour. This will enable you to plan for your birth and to be able to quickly decide whether to accept or decline what is being suggested. When labouring, you need to be free to concentrate on birthing your baby and not have to consider new information.
It may take more than one consultation, which is fine. With continuity of care you will have the opportunity to develop a relationship with the midwife and feel secure to talk in confidence about anything that is important to you. for describing your block.
Birth Preparation & Hypnobirthing Classes via Best Births: £295 per couple
In addition and actually very important!! Despite being a midwife for 8 years before I had my daughter, I (Chris) would have loved to have accessed these classes!
Best Births provides comprehensive evidence-based antenatal education classes which incorporate hypnobirthing theory. The course is designed to provide pregnancy and birth information and hypnotherapy techniques in a relaxed and informal way. Currently the course is being delivered on a 1-2-1 basis, via Zoom anywhere in the country, or face-to-face in Dorset.
The course is made up of four 2-hour sessions and is tailored to meet your individual needs and help you achieve the calm and safe birth your body is designed for. After each class you will have techniques to practise and time in the following class to discuss how you found the experience. Included in the course are: relaxation MP3s, a pack of beautiful positive affirmation cards and a course booklet.
The knowledge you gain will help you to understand and deal with the changes you experience in pregnancy and to prepare for birth and parenthood. We are passionate about helping women to be informed about their pregnancies and the options they have for care. The research shows that women who undertake good quality antenatal education classes have better health outcomes for themselves and their babies and it is our aim to help women to have the best pregnancy and birth experience possible.

Expert Witness Help: price variable
Our expert witness, can advise on whether, in her opinion, there has been any negligence in the care of you or your baby either in pregnancy, birth or the postnatal period. She can offer advice on the steps to take this forward either directly with the Trust or through legal action. She can not act as an expert witness in court as she has been involved in advising you.

This service involves meeting with you and your partner, in person or Zoom, depending on logistics, a detailed review of your maternity notes, a preliminary report giving an opinion to help you decide whether to take further action and a follow-up meeting or video call.
